Shenendehowa Central School District looks to fill bus driver gap

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Bus driver shortages across the country are continuing, and Shenendehowa Central School District isn’t an outlier, said Shen Assistant Director of Transportation Austin Little.

As of February, Little says the district has 165 permenent bus drivers, but is looking to fill staff to 200 and hiring anywhere from 10-15 drivers per school year. The district pays $24 an hour and provides benefits without full-time work.

“It’s a constant uphill battle for us,” said Little.

In the meantime, office staff and maintenance workers are stepping in to fill out the gaps, and bus drivers are working beyond scheduled hours to maintain routes…
