Hudson movie theater closing after less than 2 years

HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Story Screen Cinema is closing its doors after less than two years in Hudson. Diana DiMuro and Mike Burdge, who operate the cinema, made the announcement on social media at the end of January.

“Unfortunately, we have been dealing with some major issues with our building in Hudson, NY, over the past several months,” read the post. “After much back and forth with our landlord, we have made the difficult decision to not continue our lease at 160 Fairview Ave.”

Story Screen Cinema opened in Hudson in June 2024. Previously, the space had been home of the Madison Theatre, which closed both its Hudson and Albany theaters in early 2024.

Burdge started Story Screen in 2014 as a way to share his love of movies, DiMuro previously told NEWS10. Burdge helped open and manage Story Screen Beacon Theater and Story Screen Drive-In in Beacon before parting ways with his partners in 2023.

Story Screen Cinema’s last day is set for Sunday, February 8. Those who have gift cards are encouraged to use them by this date.

DiMuro and Burdge told NEWS10 they are looking for another space to open the cinema, but do not have one lined up yet. They said they will continue to host pop-up events and have more outdoor screenings in Hudson and the Hudson Valley throughout 2026…
