Umphrey’s McGee Revive Long-Lost Metallica, Ween and Pat Metheny Covers in the Northeast

Umphrey’s McGee’s Sky’s The Limit Tour picked up speed over the week as they touched down in the Northeast. The pioneering progressive jam outfit’s touring has brought an uninterrupted chain of nightly surprises since the beginning of the year, and jetlag couldn’t slow the band down as they moved the series to a new region for shows in Buffalo, N.Y., Morristown, N.J. and Albany, N.Y.

Umphrey’s McGee took the stage at their longtime haunt of Buffalo’s jam haven, The Town Ballroom, on Feb. 1 with “Le Blitz,” a key cut from You Walked Up Shaking In Your Boots But You Stood Tall And Left A Raging Bull. That setlist staple plowed ahead directly into “2×2,” which featured a notable tease of John Williams’ Star Wars theme, then the band took a beat before launching into an expansive medley of “Kabump,” Blueprints centerpiece “Exit Signs,” “It Doesn’t Matter” and “The Bottom Half.”…
