COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A new ice rink has opened in the Capital Region. The outdoor rink is located in West Albany Memorial Park.
Outdoor skating was reintroduced in Colonie in December 2022 after a 20-year hiatus. The town would flood the courts and groom the ice to make a rink. However, the ice would melt as temperatures warmed.
The newest project came to life thanks to a federal grant and previously collected public benefit funds. The money was used to add an integrated chilling system that cools the ice surface during milder weather. It creates a seasonally permanent attraction that extends the opportunity for outdoor ice skating.
