Observers are usually not supposed to eat meat on Fridays during Lent. However, fish is OK.
Lent runs for 40 days, and there are seven Fridays before it ends. Here are some places where you can get a fish fry and other seafood in the Capital Region.
Ted’s Fish Fry
Ted’s Fish Fry serves individual fish fries as well as a fish fry lunch special. Not feeling a fish fry? Ted’s offers other seafood such as fried fish pieces, fish tacos, clam rolls, crab cakes, scallops, and oysters.

Little Big Fatz
Little Big Fatz opened its doors in March 2021 as Wynantskill’s new Fish Fry and Scoop Shack. Since it has grown into a local destination known for fresh seafood, hand-packed specialty burgers, homemade chowders, cheesesteaks, and both soft and hard ice cream, offering something for everyone while staying true to its roots as a fish fry destination.
Off Shore Pier
Located at 637 3rd Ave Extension in Rensselaer, Off Shore Pier is both a fish market and restaurant. The restaurant has many seafood options including fish fries, scallops, oysters, shrimp, crab cakes, clams and different types of fish.
Anker’s Fish House
Anker’s Fish House offers not just a fish fry, but several different seafood options served on a roll, as well as fried dinners, breaded and fried options and baked and broiled fish meals. The Fish House offers daily specials and can be located at 420 Altamont Avenue in Schenectady.
Eddie F’s
Eddie F’s has fish fries and a variety of other seafood items. You can view the full menu on the restaurant’s website. Eddie F’s has two locations: 119 Clinton Street in Saratoga Springs and 1742 Route 9 in Clifton Park.

Smiles Soft Serve Ice Cream
Smiles is opening up on February 20 for Fish Fry Fridays. The eatery will be open on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the full food menu will be available as well. Smiles Soft Serve Ice Cream is located at 5 John Street in Nassau.
Red’s Restaurant
A classic seafood restaurant in Greene County has everything you could ask for including their take on a fish fry. Their “Fish Burger” is broiled or deep-fried haddock fillet served on a brioche roll with french fries and a homemade coleslaw and in the spring, the business offers the “Fish Fry Boat.” Red’s Restaurant is located at 12005 Route 9W in West Coxsackie.
The Catskill Elks Lodge
The lodge will be holding its annual Lenten Fish Fry dinners every Friday evening starting Feb 20th and running through Good Friday on April 3, 2026. You must call to reserve your dinners by the Wednesday before the Friday.
Fish fry’s will be available for dine in or take out from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dinner choices include haddock, clams, shrimp or a fish/clam/shrimp combo. All dinners come with your choice of mac and cheese or fries and coleslaw, lemon and sauces for $17…
