Albany flower shop founder indicted on kidnapping, strangulation charges

ALBANY — The founder of a longtime flower shop is facing a kidnapping charge amid allegations he trapped, bound, and choked a woman for hours last month in his home above the business.

Mark Carter, 68, of Albany, was arraigned Friday morning in Albany County Court for felony second-degree kidnapping, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, and two counts of second-degree strangulation. A Feb. 17 grand jury indictment alleges Carter — who founded a flower shop on Henry Johnson Boulevard — abducted a woman, restrained her and choked her at least twice on Jan. 18.
