Businesses band together to recover after large fire in West Sand Lake

WEST SAND LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Resting on the right end of the 43 Mall Shopping Plaza in West Sand Lake, is the remains of businesses that once brought people together—places filled with laughter, routine, and familiar faces. Today, while the weight of the loss is still fresh, what’s standing just as strong is the support from neighbors stepping up to help re-build.

Michael DeAnglo owns Warner & Foley Incorporated, an independent insurance agency that provides coverage for many of the businesses in the mall. It’s also one of the four businesses lost to the fire. Yet in the face of this difficulty, Michael has a job to do.

“It’s going to be difficult, not going to be efficient, but we will be operational, and I think that’s the most important thing,” Michael noted. “All those business owners, they had their life savings in those businesses. But they’re resilient, and I’ve known all of them for multiple years, so I know they will push forward.”

Thursday morning he showed up to the scene to file each claim from his cell phone. That’s just one example of how businesses are helping each other.

“I’ve had multiple business owners offer up their spaces,” Michael explained. “I’ve had competitors in the area offer up spaces to help me. So it’s really been a very, very beautiful thing.”…
