Roof collapse and gas leak at Green’s Appliance in Colonie

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A business on Central Avenue in Colonie is picking up the pieces after its roof collapsed, resulting in a gas leak Monday afternoon. Around 4 p.m., Green’s Appliance and Furniture had a 50-by-50-foot section of the ceiling fall while the business was open.

“Luckily we have no injuries here, all employees were able to escape the building without injury and no injuries to first responders,” said Colonie Fire Department Chief Michael Romano.

He said everything is now safe and the codes division and building department are investigating to figure out the cause of the collapse. Romano also said that heavy snow on a roof can sometimes be the issue, but he at this time he doesn’t think that was the case at Green’s.
