VILLAGE OF WATERFORD, N.Y. (NEWS10) —After nearly three decades in office, the Village of Waterford’s longtime mayor is stepping aside, paving the way for a new leader. For nearly 30 years, Mayor Bert Mahoney has guided this village through growth and change. NEWS10’s Tyanna Xavier met with him on Tuesday and told her what accomplishments he’s proud of.

“We built a new firehouse. We had a terrible experience during Irene, the flood back in 2011,” Mahoney said. “We’ve done a lot of flood improvement projects in the community. The historic preservation is a big thing, but the infrastructure is the big one and keeping our village moving is a big one.”
After being involved in the community for over five decades, for him it just felt like time.

“I’ve been involved in the community for over 50 years, and I was a former town supervisor, town councilman, and I ran for mayor in 1998. I’ve been the mayor for 28 years, and I just figured it was time to finally retire,” Mahoney said
