ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The American Heart Association’s Heart Ball event on February 27 raised $500,000 for cardiovascular healthcare advances and awareness. But for one Rotterdam family, the work is ongoing.
Ray Haugen is a lacrosse coach, dedicated SUNY Cobleskill police officer and a loving father to his three children Izzy, Rowan and Liam. He also is currently suffering severe heart failure.

Haugen’s wife, Laura Haugen, opened up to NEWS10’s Bianca Caputo about her family’s experience. She said they noticed Ray was experiencing fatigue, but they didn’t suspect heart failure.
“In hindsight, he was always so fatigued and tired,” Laura said. “Over the years, we thought it was working long shifts and the stress of the job,”
