University at Albany introduces cybersecurity clinic for businesses as new threats emerge

ALBANY — Over a dozen computers with specialized cybersecurity programming sat in a dimly-lit room on Thursday, ready for students at the University at Albany to use.

“It may simply look like a computer lab,” said Ariel Pinto, professor and chair of the university’s Department of Cybersecurity. “We call it the cyber range.”

The space at the university’s ETEC building serves as its new cybersecurity clinic, which will be used by undergraduate and graduate students as part of their work to help strengthen the digital defenses of local small businesses, nonprofits, governments and community organizations…
