COLONIE — Jade Asian Buffet, owned by a family that last had a local restaurant a decade ago but has continued to work in the industry, is due to open Thursday in the former Dragon Buffet building at 1881 Central Ave. The two businesses are unaffiliated.
It will serve pan-Asian fare and try to distinguish itself from two other large, relatively new Asian buffets located within less than 3 miles by offering fare that ranges across Asian culinary traditions and includes numerous healthy options, said Ada Chen. She is opening the restaurant with her parents, Shuqing Chen and Zhu Lin, and brother, Leo Chen.
“We also want it to be affordably priced,” said Chen. Lunch will cost $13.99 Monday to Thursday, $15.99 Friday and Saturday, $20.99 for dinner all six days, with the dinner price applying all day on Sunday. That is the same price to slightly more expensive than Albany Buffet, which opened 14 months ago on Wolf Road, and about half the cost of dinner at UMI Sushi & Seafood Buffet on Central Avenue.
