CLIFTON PARK — Lawsuits tied to a disputed contractor payment were dropped earlier this year, but not before the town incurred an additional $42,000 in costs to resolve the matter. A 2024 decision by the supervisor to withhold payment to a contractor was reversed last month by the Town Board, and the delay ultimately added $28,000 in interest owed to the contractor and $13,722 in attorney fees.
One lawsuit was brought by Callanan Industries, which sought payment of $417,032.87 for town road work completed in the fall of 2024. Town Supervisor Phil Barrett refused to pay, alleging in a Dec. 4, 2024, letter to the company that Highway Superintendent Dahn Bull diverted funds to have the roads paved and therefore “is personally responsible for the unauthorized paving expenses.”
