Jade Asian Buffet marks grand opening with cultural flare

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Albany food community has a new option for Asian cuisine. Celebrating its grand opening on March 5, Jade Asian Buffet, located at 1881 Central Ave., is kicking off its first day of business with a special 10% discount for customers and a one-of-a-kind performance.

Starting at 11:45 a.m., the new Chinese buffet will host a traditional dragon dance performed by the local Chinese community. The dance symbolizes good fortune and prosperity for the restaurant, which is family-owned and operated by ShuQing Chen, her husband Linzhu, and their two children, Ada and Leo.

Both Chinese immigrants, ShuQing, who is also known as Sue to some, and Linzhu, relocated to the United States when they were 22 and 19, respectively. When speaking with NEWS10, Ada and Leo describe Linzhu as a man with a passion for cooking and ShuQing as a lover of hospitality, both of whom are proud to be members of Albany’s vibrant Chinese community.

“Jade Asian Buffet combines authentic family recipes with a focus on hospitality and serving fresh food, unlike the fast-food style approach that many buffets take,” Leo said. “My mom ensures guests feel welcome, while my dad brings traditional, high-quality flavors that make our dishes stand out.”

Ada said that, after seeing a TikTok, her mother had the idea of celebrating the grand opening with a traditional dragon dance performance and thought that incorporating it into the opening would be nice. It is also a way for the family to preserve Chinese culture in the Albany area…
