New Greek restaurant opening in Guilderland

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A new Greek restaurant is moving into the former Athos spot at 1814 Western Avenue in Guilderland. Zante is being developed by Bob and Alaina Pilarinos.

Bob Pilarinos is part of Pilarinos Hospitality Group, which owns Capital City Diner in Guilderland and Ambrosia Diner in Queensbury. Pilarinos said his partners in the hospitality group are not involved in Zante.

Pilarinos had previously passed on the chance to own the former Athos property a few years ago, but when it came up for sale again, he jumped on the opportunity. He told NEWS10 that he wanted to try something different from diners. He officially closed on the sale of the property on February 27.

Zante is the nickname for the island in Greece his parents grew up on, said Pilarinos. The menu will feature Greek cuisine including swordfish, octopus, calamari, Greek pasta dishes, Greek salad, and more.

Zante will be open for dinner six nights a week. Pilarinos said the projected hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. or 10 p.m., and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Once the restaurant gets going, Pilarinos is planning on having a Greek Night once a month that will feature a band or DJ and expanded hours…
