In 2022, after more than 20 years in the department, Jessica Wagner became the first female fire commissioner for the Selkirk Fire Department. It’s a milestone rooted not in ambition, but in devotion to her father’s memory.
Wagner’s father, Kevin Seaburg, served the department for 15 years before dying of a heart attack while responding to a fire in Selkirk on Feb. 5, 1997. He was honored at the National Memorial in 1998, where his family was introduced to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
“Their motto is to honor, support and serve,” Wagner said. “And that’s literally what I’ve done. My dad was honored; they have offered such support to my family and I, and now it’s my time to give back to them and to serve in any capacity that I can.”…
