Albany Academy, Holy Names to Square off for Girl’s Class A Crown

Troy, N.Y. (WRGB) — Championship week on the high school hardwood resumed Wednesday night after a brief pause in the action due to weather on Tuesday, with teams battling in semifinal play for spots in the upcoming sectional finals.

In the girls Class A semifinals at HVCC, Holy Names beat Glens Falls 69-59 in a matchup of the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds.

Holy Names set the tone early with a layup from Jeniyah Wood. Maggie Volmer, the latest player to reach 1,000 points, went to work in the paint, including a rebound and putback after a missed attempt. Glens Falls answered late in the first quarter when Allie Dickinson hit a 3-pointer, but Holy Names took a 13-9 lead into the second. Volmer continued to produce in the second quarter, scoring off a miss as she grabbed the rebound and finished for two. Holy Names led 31-27 at halftime…
