Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Albany Area

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Albany and surrounding areas, effective from 5 p.m. today (March 5) until noon tomorrow. This marks the second advisory this week, as Capital Region residents brace for another challenging evening commute.

The advisory warns of precipitation beginning as rain this afternoon, which will transition into a mix of sleet, freezing rain, and snow, particularly in northern areas. According to the Times Union, up to 2 inches of snow and sleet, along with 1/10 to 1/4 of an inch of ice, are expected. The highest ice accumulation is anticipated in the Helderbergs and eastern Catskills.
