Flood warning: Mohawk River ice jam causes road closures

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The National Weather Service has issued a severe flood warning for Albany, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties along the Mohawk River due to an ice jam. This is causing some road closures in these areas.

In Niskayuna, Rosendale Road between the Mohawk River and Niskayuna Road is closed until further notice. In Clifton Park, there are road closures on Van Vranken Road, Riverview Road near Boyack Road, and around Whipple Bridge.

Clifton Park officials warn the public to avoid these areas if possible but use extreme caution if you must drive through. According to the National Weather Service, drivers should turn around when encountering flooded roads as most flood deaths happen in vehicles.

The National Weather Service said locations that will experience flooding include Schenectady, Cohoes, Scotia, Alplaus, East Glenville, Halfmoon, Groom Corners, Vischer Ferry, Aqueduct, Rexford, Mohawk View, Grays Corners, Dunsbach Ferry, Crescent and Crescent Station. The SUNY Schenectady campus is also closed on Monday due to flooding.
