Albany traffic stop leads to felony drug charges for 70-year-old man

Albany, NY (WRGB) — A traffic stop near Everett Road and I-90 in Albany led to the arrest of 70-year-old Francisco Salazar, accused of possessing cocaine and fentanyl intended for distribution, according to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office.

Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr. said members of the Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort unit conducted the stop at about 6:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in the area of Everett Road and I-90 in Albany for a traffic violation.

Investigators said the driver, Francisco Salazar of Albany, was found with about 3.3 grams of cocaine and 130 glassine bags of fentanyl. Authorities said the drugs were intended for distribution based on the quantity and individual packaging.

Salazar was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class B felony; fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony; criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a class A misdemeanor; and a traffic violation…
