Columbia High School students raise over $230K for blood cancer

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) — In January, a team of Columbia High School students began raising money for Blood Cancer United. Less than two months later, the Columbia Kicks Cancer group finished with a total of $239,237.

The campaign, led by seniors Natalie Krisanda and Brady Martyn, kicked off on January 15. About 20 total students were involved in the 6th annual fundraiser.

“To say it has been a whirlwind would be an understatement,” Krisanda said.

Over seven weeks, Columbia Kicks Cancer held several fundraising events, such as cookie decorating, a t-shirt sale, a softball clinic and bingo night. The team far surpassed their goal of raising $150,000, with all the money going to blood cancer research, treatment and care.

“We’ve been busy, we’ve been driven, and more than anything, we’ve been inspired,” Krisanda said. “Over the last two months, this team didn’t just fundraise — we spread awareness and made an incredible impact on the fight against blood cancer.”…
