Falcone soars: Waste water chief to be Waterford’s first new mayor in 28 years

WATERFORD — The oldest incorporated village in the United States is getting a new leader for the first time in nearly three decades.

Craig Falcone, a local wastewater treatment plant chief operator, on Wednesday defeated Michelle Cleary in an open race to replace retiring 28-year Waterford Mayor Bert Mahoney. The unofficial count was 210-187.

Falcone, whose term begins on April 1, doesn’t anticipate a stay nearly as long as Mahoney. Mayors are elected every four years in the village at the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers…
