Teen Sentenced For Albany Barber Shop Manslaughter

An 18-year-old man is being sentenced today, Friday (March 20), for his role in the fatal shooting at Village Barber and Beauty on Second Avenue in Albany, New York. The man, who was 15 at the time of the incident in May 2023, pleaded guilty to manslaughter last year. He faces up to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the shooting that claimed the life of 47-year-old barber Tyrone Stanley.

According to NEWS10 ABC, the shooting occurred on Saturday, May 13, 2023, when a gunman opened fire inside the barber shop. Tyrone Stanley died from his injuries, while a 19-year-old man and a nine-year-old boy were also shot but survived. The case shocked the local community and prompted a renewed focus on gun violence prevention.

Community members and leaders have worked to reclaim the area and honor the memory of Tyrone Stanley. As reported by CBS6 Albany, the Village Barber and Beauty shop has remained open, offering support and free haircuts to children as a way to move forward.
