Albany mayor announces spending cuts, other measures to address deficit

ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT)- Albany Mayor Dorcey Applyrs says the city will be cutting back on expenses to address a $15M deficit from fiscal year (FY) 2025 and a projected $22M deficit in FY 2026.

“Albany is not alone in these fiscal challenges,” Mayor Applyrs said at a press conference March 20 after news the city would be implementing a hiring freeze.

“Because of the challenges, I’ve been made aware of, I’ve taken decisive steps and I would say responsible steps to strengthen Albany’s financial status and to put the city back onto strong financial footing,” she said…
