New Jersey fugitive arrested in Schenectady after 12 years of evading police

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A man wanted out of New Jersey was arrested in Schenectady on Thursday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Adan Lemus, 49, has reportedly evaded law enforcement for over a decade.

Authorities said Lemus was initially arrested in 2013 after he had allegedly used physical force on a victim for sexual gratification. After being released on bond, the suspect reportedly fled New Jersey and a warrant was issued in 2014 for failure to appear.

12 years later, the 49-year-old was taken into custody Thursday morning by members of the Albany Division of the New York/New Jersey Regional Task Force. He is currently being held at Schenectady County Jail pending extradition to Morris County, where he will face charges for criminal sexual contact and failure to appear, U.S. Marshals said…
