ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The town of Rotterdam is holding a formal swearing-in ceremony to welcome the new chief and deputy chief to the police department. It’s taking place at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Rotterdam Town Hall.
Police Chief William Male is a Capital Region native who has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement. He began his career in September 2005 as a dispatcher for the Rotterdam Police Department. He was appointed to police officer in January 2026 and rose through the ranks, becoming deputy chief in 2021.

“I am honored to serve as the police chief of Rotterdam,” he said in a statement. “Together with Deputy Chief Farry and our dedicated officers we will continue to uphold the highest standards of law enforcement, build trust with our community, and ensure the safety and well-being of every resident.”
Chief Male is a graduate of Mohonasen High School and has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The College of Saint Rose.
Deputy Police Chief Patrick Farry has been with the Rotterdam Police Department since 1997 when he began his career as a public safety dispatcher. He was appointed to police officer in 2003. He worked as a patrolman, detective, school resource officer in the Schalmont Central School District, and has served as the Commanding Officer of the Detective Division since July 2021.
