Albany’s new mayor says she didn’t create the budget mess

ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT) – Albany Mayor Dorcey Applyrs said she inherited major budget deficits and pushed back on what she called misleading claims about the city’s finances.

In a Friday, Mar. 27 statement, Applyrs said Albany faced a $15 million structural deficit for 2025 and roughly $22 million deficit for 2026 before she took office. She said those shortfalls came from decisions made before her administration.
