ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — After reopening under a lease-to-purchase agreement two years ago, the Spectrum 8 Theater in Albany is officially under Scene One Entertainment’s ownership. Officials for the Art Deco theater announced on Monday that the purchase will allow for several revitalization investments.

Through the purchase, the Spectrum 8 Theater will soon undergo updates to its parking lot and theater seating, as well as lobby and auditorium restorations. Guests can expect the upgrades to be phased over the coming months and years, as Scene One Entertainment said they plan to seek federal and state historic grants for the projects.
The theater opened in 1941 as the Delaware Theater and only featured a single screen before being purchased in May 1983 and renamed “The Spectrum.” Officials said the original auditorium was split into two, dividing its 699 seats.
“Two years ago, when I announced I was reopening the Spectrum, the ultimate goal was to bring this theater fully under our ownership, and today, I could not be more excited to say that this dream has come true,” Scene One Entertainment Owner and CEO Joe Masher said. “The Spectrum is our crown jewel. It is the theater I grew up going to, seeing films that truly captivated every corner of the imagination. In the past two years, we have brought that magic back to the Spectrum, and we have so much more planned to come.”…
