Good Samaritan helps woman in frightening vehicle incident

WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Oftentimes, you never know what you’d do in a crisis situation, until it’s happening to you. For Raychelle Werking, it all started on a Thursday night, on her way home from work. Her car broke down at the intersection of the I-787 ramps in Watervliet, with traffic flowing on either side of her. She immediately called 911, but wasn’t sure of her next step.

“All of a sudden my car would not move,” Werking explained. “The gas was not working, the brake was not working, and the steering stopped working. So, the panic started to set in. It was very scary. I’ve never had that happen to me before.”

Werking said that people driving by tried to do what they could.

“A lot of people stopped and asked if I was okay, and I said yes, 911 is on their way,” Werking recalled. “They said, you know, can they help me? and I said, no, don’t help me. It’s a bad spot. Please go ahead.”…
