Tulip Fest 2026 to include royal ball, music from Joywave, more

Details are starting to emerge like flowers from bulbs for this year’s Tulip Festival in Albany.

May 8: A new Tulip Queen

Events officially kick off on Friday, May 8 with street scrubbing on State and Lodge streets, in honor of the city’s Dutch heritage. The city announced Thursday the addition of a Tulip Festival luncheon at Hattie’s Culinary Lab. Tickets can be purchased by emailing [email protected].

May 9: Joywave, the Royal Tulip Ball

On Saturday, The Mendelssohn Club of Albany, a Capital Region choir with more than 100 years of history, will perform at the 518 Stage to open for the Tulip Court Procession. The crowning of this year’s Tulip Queen, and the announcement of their court, will take place at noon at the Washington Park Lakehouse Stage.

For music, indie rockers Joywave will headline the Saturday mainstage at this year’s Tulip Fest, radio station WEQX announced on its Facebook page Wednesday. Sharing the stage with the trio that hails from Rochester is Grace Bowers, the teenage blues-rocker from Nashville, and E-Block, the Rotterdam-based rock group. On the 518Stage are four local artists and groups: Keegan James (1 p.m.), The Sugar Hold (2:15 p.m.), The Belle Curves with Delaney Hafener (3:30 p.m.) and 97otis, aka Orlondo Otis Hundley II (4:45 p.m.).

Also planned for the evening is a Royal Tulip Ball at the New York State Museum, with proceeds benefitting the Capital City Fun. Tickets can be purchased by emailing [email protected].

May 10: YogaFest, Alex Torres, Capital Region Best Mom

Mainstage acts on Sunday include the local Latin favorites, the Alex Torres Group, the Ill Funk Ensemble bringing ’90s and ’00s dance music, and MJ the Illusion, based on the music and visuals of Michael Jackson.
