ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — A 16-year-old from Troy was arrested on felony gun possession charges after Albany County sheriff’s deputies said they found him with a loaded, defaced firearm in downtown Albany.
Albany County Sheriff Craig D. Apple Sr. said members of the Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort Unit were conducting a proactive investigation Thursday, April 2, 2026, at about 2:17 p.m. in the area of South Pearl Street and Herkimer Street in the city of Albany.
During the investigation, deputies said the 16-year-old male was found with a loaded Smith & Wesson .22-caliber AR-style pistol concealed in his front waistband. The gun was equipped with an extended magazine containing 24 rounds of ammunition, according to the sheriff’s office.
