An Amsterdam man, Erray Vanbuckly, was arrested on Friday (April 3) after allegedly driving drunk and crashing into the Broome Animal Sanctuary. The incident occurred around 10:19 p.m., according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office. Vanbuckly, 53, had two children in the car at the time of the crash.
Upon arrival at the scene on Route 145, deputies found Vanbuckly and the children unharmed, but observed signs of impairment in Vanbuckly. After an EMS evaluation, he was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Vanbuckly refused a chemical test during processing at the sheriff’s office.
He faces charges of felony aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, which pertains to driving while intoxicated with a child passenger.
