Ravena residents look to re-route trucks in their neighborhood

RAVENA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Residents in Ravena are reaching out to state departments and local politicians about their concerns around increased truck traffic. Lynda Geraldsen said she started keeping track of the number of trucks that are traveling on her road.

“This particular day, there’s 232,” said Geraldsen. “18-wheeler, 18-wheeler. There are minutes here- we have tandem, that’s [when trucks travel] back-to-back.”

Lynda Geraldson has lived on Fuller Road in Ravena for the past 30 years, but up until the past decade, she didn’t think her road had a problem. The amount of trucks in her neighborhood isn’t just a concern for traffic on the road.

“I don’t open the windows in the front of the house unless it’s the weekend,” said Geraldsen. “I only open in the back just [to be] a little bit more safe.”

Geraldsen says her road is the only option now for trucks to reach the quarry nearby. In 2023, two access roads were closed to the quarry while her road remained open. Town Supervisor Stephen Donnelly says this was a decision made before he got into office…
