MENANDS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An emaciated dog that was abandoned in a crate outside the Albany Criminal Court on Monday is making her way down a long road to recovery. The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) said on Friday that the pup, now known as Ayla, is undergoing extensive treatment after being neglected.

Following her arrival at MHHS on Monday, Ayla began receiving fluids, pain management, and monitored nutritional support. Veterinary staff at MHHS said that, beyond being emaciated, Ayla is also recovering from significant muscle loss, dehydration, and sores on her hind end, with one of the sores extending to the bone.
“Because of the risks associated with refeeding after prolonged starvation, her care team is following a protocol to safely stabilize her metabolism and allow her body to begin processing food normally again,” MHHS officials said.
Albany Police Department said the investigation remains ongoing and that anyone with information or who knows the person pictured above is encouraged to contact Investigator McGee at (518) 462-7107. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to law enforcement online through the Capital Region Crime Stoppers website.
