NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Multiple fire crews responded to a Tesla and structure fire in Niskayuna Sunday morning, according to the Niskayuna Fire District No. 1. The incident reportedly occurred at a home on Hawthorn Road.

Firefighters were dispatched to the residence just before 5:40 a.m. Upon arrival, crews reportedly found heavy fire through the roof of an attached garage.
According to the fire department, a Tesla was engulfed in flames, with a second car beginning to catch fire. A building on the right side of the home was also impacted and nearing ignition due to radiant heat, authorities said.

Fire officials were reportedly able to bring the house and garage fire under control within 20 minutes. However, the Tesla required extended operations because the lithium-ion batteries were in thermal runaway and actively burning.
