SUNY Schenectady closes after Friday power outage

A power outage identified early Friday morning has led SUNY Schenectady to close for the day and cancel all classes, on-campus events and meetings.

Patrick Stella, a spokesperson for National Grid, said the college’s power went out around 2:30 a.m. and the outage was caused by a failed piece of electrical equipment that the utility company is responsible for replacing. Power was restored at 9:30 a.m., but a college spokesperson said the school will remain closed for the day.

Stella said National Grid switched the college to an alternate power line for now, but did not have an estimate for when the failed equipment would be replaced…
