Mushrooms growing on walls: Albany family says mold made children sick as repairs stalled

ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) — An Albany family says they have spent months living in what they describe as a health nightmare – an apartment plagued by water damage, mold and, at one point, mushrooms growing from the ceiling — conditions medical providers linked to worsening respiratory problems in the family’s children.

The family says the problems inside the Clinton Avenue apartment began in September after water started leaking through the ceiling and behind the walls.

“September of this year, I woke up to mushrooms form in different ways,” said tenant Charylee Gaines said. “They developed into mushrooms that are infecting our bodies, making us sick.”…
