Upgrades coming to Northway in $40M project

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The New York State Department of Transportation will be out on the Adirondack Northway in the coming months for pavement renewal projects. The work will cover Route 20 in the town of Guilderland to Exit 11.

The first phase will take place from the Mohawk River to Exit 11, spanning the towns of Halfmoon, Clifton Park, and Malta. NYSDOT said it will cost $18.7 million. The second project will cover Route 20 to the Mohawk River in Colonie. This phase will cost $22 million.

In both projects, the top layer of the roadway will be removed and replaced. NYSDOT said the new asphalt incorporates a high-friction surface for improved traction and drainage. Additionally, high reflective pavement markings and modernized traffic sensors will be added and new guiderails as needed…
