ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — As Albuquerque residents face triple digit heat this week, the city is reminding the public how to stay cool and safe. The city is launching “Operation Cool Down.”
The initiative brings together city departments, public facilities, outreach teams, and shelters to ensure residents have places to cool off, get help, and access services when temps become dangerous. The city is encouraging residents to plan ahead, limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, drink water and check on neighbors.
“Beginning Wednesday, June 17, sprinkler play will be activated on days when Albuquerque is forecast to reach 100°F or higher, except Sundays. Sprinklers will run from 1p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at select neighborhood parks,” the city stated in a news release…
