Good morning!
The warmth from yesterday has stuck around overnight. Temperatures in the Albuquerque Metro Area have fallen into the 60s and 70s so far. Meanwhile, breezy winds are already picking up at weather observation sites in northeast New Mexico. Raton and Clayton have already experienced 48 and 35 mph wind gusts. The reason for the breezy to windy conditions? It’s because of a backdoor cold front that has pushed into the state overnight. This frontal boundary will bring gusty winds to counties in the east. The highest wind gusts may reach 45-50 mph through this morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) has a Wind Advisory in effect for Curry and Roosevelt Counties until noon. Moisture is also expected to filter into the state behind that frontal boundary.
Isolated showers and storms are forecasted today across parts of the central mountain chain and sections of west New Mexico. The frontal boundary will bring cooler weather toward the northeast compared to yesterday’s highs. Highs, in that area of the state, reached the 90s yesterday. Temperature differences could be 20-25 degrees cooler between today and yesterday’s high temperatures. Forecasted highs in the northeast will reach the 70s and low 80s. The rest of the state will still hold onto the heat reaching the 80s, 90s and 100s. Moisture still sticks around through Friday giving us another round of showers and storms…
