BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — Bernalillo County is reminding pet owners to protect their animals during the holiday. During Fourth of July, more companion animals are picked up by local animal care officers than any other time of the year.
The sound of fireworks can frighten and/or confuse animals, causing them to run away or even jump fences to escape the noise. To help this, pet owners can try to create a safe space inside their home, while doing what they can to mask the sound of the fireworks, like turning up the TV volume.
