Months after wall at Lindy’s Diner collapsed, blocks of Central Avenue finally reopen

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Three months after a wall of Lindy’s Diner collapsed in downtown Albuquerque, the demolition is nearly complete, and downtown’s main drag is finally back open.

For businesses, the return of cars and foot traffic has been a sight for sore eyes. “When we saw them taking the barricades down yesterday, we cheered,” said Richard Hanslip, a clerk for R&D Smoke Shop, only a few buildings down from where Lindy’s once stood.

The collapse and subsequent road closure hurt many businesses, R&D included. Hanslip said, “Our business has been at least half of what it was”. He went on to say, “We depend on the foot traffic, and with the barricades up, we were just sort of invisibilized”…
