ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The practice of Traditional Medicine is ancient; it mostly involves the mixing of herbs and faith to treat ailments. Long seen as magic or witchcraft there are many different preconceived notions surrounding this practice.
On this episode of New Mexico Strange, KRQE News 13 host and anchors Chad Brummett and Stephanie Chavez are joined by UNM Professor Dr. Mario Del Angel Guevara to talk about the history of Curanderismo, a form of traditional medicine, and how the practice evolved from Mexico City and came into New Mexico as one of the first medical practices introduced in the America’s. Dr. Guevara talks about the history and traditions of this practice, the science behind it, as well as breaks down some of those prejudices around it.
