ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Showers and a few thunderstorms have started off this Friday morning for some in the central portions of New Mexico – and this includes the Albuquerque metro! Rain showers have started tapering off within the last hour for most, but we’re expecting storms to revamp this afternoon and evening.
A few spots could see rain once again starting to pop up by mid-morning, but most activity will start to get underway by late morning/early afternoon starting in the high terrain and increase in coverage throughout the remainder of Friday. Storms will slowly move off the high terrain into nearby highlands/valleys/low-lying areas by mid-to-late afternoon. Here in Albuquerque, we could see anything as early as lunchtime, but our rain chances (30-40%) will be best in the late afternoon to mid-evening (4 p.m. – 8 p.m.).
Some storms could be heavy rainmakers. Flash flooding will be a concern for today for most areas around the state, especially for our southern and western communities. The highest concern will be around the burn scars in the Sacramento and Capitan Mountains. A Flood Watch has been issued for this area of the South-Central Mountains from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Storms could produce a quick 1-1.25+” of rainfall…
