ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department is releasing details on an officer-involved shooting that left a man in critical condition in June 2026.

Around 8:30 p.m. on June 2, Benjamin Siegling, 37, was shot by police in the area of Osuna and Jefferson, near I-25. Police said an officer was conducting proactive patrol and stopped Siegling for jaywalking. Siegling attempted to conceal his identity and fled from the officer on foot. The officer was able to catch up with Siegling, who was armed with a knife. The officer gave him commands to drop the knife, but Siegling refused to drop it and approached the officer. That’s when the officer opened fire, hitting Siegling. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He has since been released and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. Police said Siegling has a lengthy criminal history, including shoplifting and drug charges…
