ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – New solar lights are coming to one of Albuquerque’s most popular bike routes. The city hopes a brighter street will also mean a safer one. For many people, the Silver Street Bike Boulevard is a daily commute, a way to get to work, school, or simply enjoy a ride through Nob Hill.
At night, the same road is nearly pitch black. “It’s really a high-traffic corridor for our most vulnerable road users in the city,” said Department of Municipal Development Director Jennifer Turner.
Soon, that dark stretch will look a lot different. The city is in the process of installing 42 solar lights along Silver between Yale and Girard, hoping to make cyclists easier to see. “Where we have neighborhoods that haven’t been lit up by the city yet, those can be a really prime opportunity to make the cycling and walking experience better,” said Bike ABQ President Patrick Martin…
