20th annual Lavender in the Village festival draws large crowd to Balloon Fiesta Park

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Fans of all-things lavender came together at Balloon Fiesta Park Saturday for the 20th annual Lavender in the Village Festival.

More than 150 vendors attended the event, selling a huge variety of products and treats all scented or flavored with lavender.

This year’s festival was one of the biggest in the country, with over 8,000 people attending. Event organizers say the event served as a chance to educate the community about local farmers in and around the Metro.

“It’s huge. This is a very important event because it does support our local economy. Most of the vendors here are local, we have some that are out of Albuquerque, but also our state,” said Jamie Welles, executive director of Rio Grande Community Farm. “And it does support all those small businesses that are part of our local economy that we need to support.”…
