ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – As the new school year begins, the University of New Mexico is warning students about unrecognized fraternities. It comes after one fraternity remains open, despite being suspended for allegedly hazing new members.

In the wake of hazing allegations, UNM no longer recognizes Sigma Chi as an official student organization. However, since it’s on private property, the fraternity can still recruit and house students, and its affiliation with the National Sigma Chi organization remains active.
Monday is the first day of class for UNM students, an active time for Greek Life to recruit new members on campus except for one group.
