Another round of monsoon storms, heat for Saturday

Good morning!

It’s another mild morning in the Land of Enchantment. Temperatures have fallen to the 50s, 60s, and 70s for the majority of the state. In the Albuquerque Metro low temperatures are in the 60s and 70s with calmer conditions setting in after gusty outflows winds whipped through the metro last night. Saturday’s forecast has another day filled with near record to record heat and monsoon storms. The monsoon high pressure system has already entered northeast New Mexico this morning. The anticyclone is forecasted to keep temperatures hot throughout the weekend through next week. Today’s high temperature forecast has temperatures reaching the 100s around eastern and southern New Mexico.

The National Weather Service (NWS) will issue a Heat Advisory for Quay and Chaves Counties, from 12-8 pm today, for temperatures that could reach 107 degrees. A few locations could set new record high temperatures this afternoon too. Roswell, Tucumcari, Las Vegas, Durango, and Clayton could all set a new record today. Temperatures will remain hot throughout the weekend and into next week as the monsoon high sticks around. High temperatures will be about 5-15 degrees above normal across the state. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible once again with this weekend’s showers and storms. Moisture will wrap around the monsoon high bringing isolated to scattered showers and storms this weekend. Moisture is expected to thin out limiting storm coverage across the state early next week…
