ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – As the New Mexico State Fair kicks off, safety is top of mind for neighbors in Albuquerque’s International District. Usually, New Mexico State Police does most of the patrol, but this year, the Albuquerque Police Department is making an effort to be more proactive.

“For lack of a better term, I think we were a little more hands-off; we didn’t have those active partnerships with state police, and now we’re going to do better,” said APD’s Southeast Interim Commander Lawrence Monte. He said the goal is to partner with the agencies already there, to increase police presence in the areas surrounding the fairgrounds.
In addition, they’re also talking with local businesses along key corridors likeSan Pedro to talk about their needs. Monte gave an example: “At 201 San Pedro on the southeast corner, we talked to a business owner there of that property, and yesterday morning we got an APD trailer camera set up over there to help them out.”…
